Alcohol News

Being the oldest drug known to man, alcohol has gone through cycles of widespread abuse and even prohibition. It's consumption can vary between gender, age groups, geographical location, socio-economic status and ethinicity. It can even go through periodic changes and trends within each group.

Regardless of who, where, when, why and how alcohol is consumed, it always has consequences of some kind. Alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction carry the most devestating impacts on society and the headlines can be seen in the news on a daily basis, often including some type of tragedy due to intoxication.

One of the biggest difficulties in combatting alcohol abuse and addiction is the fact that it is legal and socially acceptable. The number of "dry" or "damp" cities and counties, where the sale of alcohol is prohibited or limited has decreaased over the decades due to the majority of the adult population being able to drink responsibly, but state laws regarding driving under intoxication have thankfully become more strict.

With regards to underage drinking, alcoholic beverage companies continually direct advertising strategies that seemingly target youth directly, increasing their desire to begin drinking at an early age. More information about this can be found on the Alcohol & Teens pages within this site.

Here you will see some news events regarding alcohol over recent years that have longstanding significance.
